The "10% Crap" as you put it (Ethanol) is not what's causing the pinging.
Not that I have a good opinion of the Ethanol-Corn Industry. How old is the gas you've been using? Where did you get it from - the corner stop-and-rob that has a fuel-truck in there twice a year whether it needs it or not, the same can you fill-up the mower with, what? Has there been any work done to the bike? Any "hotrodding" of internal components? Performance cams? Does it have an aftermarket spark-advancer installed? If so, perhaps it now requires a higher-octane fuel to run without pre-ignition. Mild ping due to pre-ignition won't hurt the bike, if that's what you're wondering.
