Anyone know why the 08 RR tops out at 10,800 and the euro bikes top out at 12k with 10 extra horsepower up top?

Huge discussion about it here:

It's because American Honda wanted better bottom-end power, and that comes at the expense of top end. It's the same situaton as the 2007-08 CBR600RR. The Euro bike put out more peak power, but the American bike is much torquier.

For any street rider, the American CBR's powerband is preferable. Think about it: how many times do you get a chance to go WFO to redline on the street? Big peak numbers are meaningful only to racers and those with inferiority complexes. Take a look at our dyno graphs and try to convince me the CBR's engine is inferior to the others.
