Very few argued against it at the time. The arguments are the usual Monday morning quarterbacking conducted by the armchair warriors and ivory tower academics who have never held real jobs.

The military estimated a million+ Allied casualties to take the entire mainland. That's probably a conservative estimate considering that only about .001% of Japanese troops surrendered during the island campaigns. The Japanese were training women and girls to charge the Allied troops with spears to take advantage of the American troops' reluctance to fire on women and children.

We did what we had to do, I've seen a number of interviews of Paul Tibbits on the History and Military channels and he doesn't offer a shred of remorse or apology nor should he.

It's all well and good now to say we pushed the Japanese into it with oil embargo's but the reality is they attacked us. They started a war with us and lost..would it have been more humane to keep napalming their cities till they quit? I guess it would have kept Boeing busy building B29's for a few more years.

Yes. We certainly were a bunch of meanies to cut off oil to Japan and interfere with their aims to occupy China and the entire Far East. How dastardly to oppose their racist expansion policies.

Pshaaw....They weren't racist expansion policies, they were merely trying to create a Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere, administered by Imperial Japan of course, for the benifit of all Asians........a trading block if you will, where China, Korea, Malaysia, Burma, Indochina and the Phillipines were encouraged to give Japan all their resourses in return for allowing them to live and work as virtual slave labor under the watchful and benevolent eye's of the Imperial Japanese Army and their puppet administrators.

Clearly we had no business interfereing with that...
