Well it started out OK on my mornings commute from my palatial mountain retreat in Bonney Lake to the industrial wasteland of So. Seattle where I ply my trade... 45 degrees and dry which counts as a nice day here, supposed to get up to upper 50's this afternoon. I hops on my trusty Dyna and head off to work @ 0500, the first thing that happens was I got stuck behind some kid in a hammered Corrolla, flat black rattle can paint, sideways ball cap, not one but two fart cans, on a four cyl. no less, and the usual cloud of black smoke showing his race tune efforts where a little off.
After gagging behind this flake for a few miles I get around him and off I go, next up was some guy on a cruiser who appearantly figured we were bros and wanted to share a lane with me. This being in the commuter lane going 70 with the regular lanes next to it doing about 10 or so. In that situation you need to stay as far left as you can and keep an eye out for lane jumpers, instead I have this guy trying to creep up on my right and share the lane taking away any cushion I had from cagers...I had to drift over and force him to back off a few times before he got the point. Total BS because I had to watch for cagers trying to jump and also this guy trying to ride beside me. The third one I call Mr. Death.....he had a mid 80's GM pick-up lifted as far as it could go and big mudder tires etc.... banged up and flat black paint with skulls everywhere from a trailer hitch plug chrome number with glowing red eyes..( a Wal*Mart favorite !) to flaming skull mud flaps to various stickers in the back window completing the motiff...I'd say the guy had more issues than National Geographic. I got stuck behind him going up the offramp on 43rd and wound up getting gassed by his eye level to me "custom" duel exhausts, I passed the time trying to hold my breath and inspect the trucks clearly exposed suspension and drive train componants under the balefull glare of my headlight....not a pretty sight I assure you...rode hard and put away wet would be a charity, I'm surprised this thing stayed in one piece..... After that it was more or less a piece of cake and I arrived at work safe and sound, granted I had my faceshield open the remaining 10 miles or so to try'n get rid of the carbon monoxide fog that my helmet had become. Now if I could just get rid of this pounder I got after my near gassing I'll be fine...

Well, at least you didn't encounter any sharks with laser beams attached to their heads. Or any mutated sea bass either.

Here in South Texas, I have come to realize and look out for the single biggest threat to my life. Teenage girls with cell phones. (Driving...of course.)
It's still worth it. When it ceases to be worth it, I'll lock myself in a cage. Fortunately, as I look to the horizon I do not see that approaching. All I see is a horizon that needs tilting! ~Rob

After that you had to navigate through all the Subarus going 55 on the dot and never checking their mirrors.

In this particular case it was a Voyager but I got around them fairly quickly so I didn't even mention it...... Subaru's out number Volvo's here by a fairly wide margin in point of fact. When you do see one it's an S80 driven by some cell phone blonde in a hurry. No, the Subaru Outback and Forrester have supplanted the Volvo for the granola-munchers and light in the loafers crowd along with Mini Coopers, which is a shame because they're really neat cars. You do see an occasional WRX driven by some up-and-comer with an appreciation for fine engineering but for the most part the alternative lifestyle crowd has whole-heartedly embraced the Subaru, I think they even come standard with rainbow stickers.

Why people buy these things in areas where it seldom snows is a mystery. The mileage isn't all that great. In Seattle I'd prefer a Golf TDI. 50 mpg!
