For 95% of Navy guys Vietnam service meant safely floating by several miles off the coast in a big steel ship. When I was on river gunboats they let guys extend maybe one tour. The couple of guys who tried to stay longer than 2 years were told that they'd been there long enough. Myself, I wouldn't want someone crazy enough to stay more than two tours anywhere near me.

"4 tours" sounds suspicious to me. Maybe it was 4 REMF tours. Maybe he has some medals for "typing above and beyond the call of duty". Or for keeping the Admiral's silverware polished.

Now that I think of it I don't know how someone could even possibly do 4 tours in 4 years. A tour is one year. Some military time is used in training, etc. It would be impossible to go in as an officer or enlisted man and complete four tours in 4 years. I doubt that BuPers would have allowed it in any case. The Navy rotates shore and sea duty. I don't believe that anyone stayed there 4 consecutive years. Nah. I don't believe it. He coulda been on a bird farm and maybe managed to stay in the area 4 years but claiming floating around offshore as "Vietnam tours" is disingenuous. A "Vietnam tour" was one year officially in country. I don't believe it. I call BS.

I use to ride my daughter everywhere, on the back of the CL350, the Buell, the DT1, mostly short trips to the mall, to and from school, soccer practice. I would hate to think of what would have happened that fatefull day if she'd been on the City-X with me. But that's the chance we take in life. What the politicos want is to control every aspect of your life, to make everything touchy-feely and warm and fuzzy. Motorcycles are not warm and fuzzy, and as injuries continue to be racked up at astounding levels with riding motorcycles, you will see more and more laws restricting their use. I was thinking back when I was a kid, riding a non-street legal 360 Pursang around for transportation in Los Angeles. Never got stopped, never got a ticket. Never even saw a cop. You can equate this: too many people=too many laws. Sad but true. Our time has come and gone.

Got that right Cuddy. With popularity comes restriction. That is why I hope all the morons that ride to look cool go find another play toy and get away from motorcycles. The sooner we go back underground the better.
