Hello all, I would like to buy a new bike, this will be my first bike. I have taken classes on riding and will be getting my bike in the next few months. I am looking for insight on how I can and should compare bikes past thier appearance. I perfer street bikes and am favoring the suzuki gsk r 750. I would like to know what bikes may be better in this class of bikes. Should I wait for the 08 to come out? Should I go for the 1000? I know that I am a new rider, but a larger bike has been suggested for me due to my size; standing 6'1" 260lbs. Any suggestions, or sites I can go on to read up some usefull information?
thank you very much for helping me with this. |

your first bike is almost always a throw-away.. try to avoid anything new or pretty..
what you should look for is something in the style that you like (sounds like sport bike). you also want something that you can sit on comfortably with both feet flat on the ground. as far as power.. you want enough juice to get you up to normal traffic speed in your usual riding environment.. too much power is scary at first.. definately don't go for the 1000.. look at used jap bikes in the 500-650 range.. 750 if your feeling ballsy and are young enough to heal fast. you want cheap, reliable and slightly under powered at first.. 3 or 4 months from now you'll want something else no matter what you get so try and get in and out of this first one as cheaply as possible without getting a lemon or something too small (like a 125 or 250 considering your size). maybe a used ninja 500? the suzi sv650 is also popular.. a guy i work with just bought a brand new gsxr1000 for his first bike.. he dropped it on his first ride down the street and is now too scared to get back on it.. now he's trying to sell a used bike with a cracked fairing to pay off his loan two weeks after he bought the thing.. not a good situation. |

Can't we just put up a sticky and have all similar inquiries directed there?
The answer is usually the same. |

I.Q.______Bike 130+______DP Bike 120-130___Ninja250, Rebel, etc. 110-120___GS500F, Ninja500 100-110___650-750 cruiser 90-100____SV650, Ninja650 80-90_____BigCruiser 70-80_____600 supersport 60-70_____Literbike less than 60____BossHoss; with riding lessons from AirHawk. There was some debate over the relative position of the 600SS and the big cruisers so I settled it with a flip of a coin.

While the simple answer is based on IQ, the correct answer is based on another measurement. The mathmatic corollary to the Seruzawa Theorem is as follows: Penis Size (inches)______Bike 8.5-OMG_____Pre-Evo HD 7.0-8.5_____Sport Touring 6.0-7.0______DP Bike 5.0-6.0___Ninja250, Rebel, etc. 4.5-5.0___GS500F, Ninja500 3.5-4.5___650-750 cruiser 2.5-3.5____SV650, Ninja650 1.5-2.5_____BigCruiser .50-1.5_____600 supersport .25-.50_____Literbike less than .25____BossHoss; with riding lessons from Mommy. The ladies will have to cook up their own Theorem.

Well, at least I ride what I am qualified for.
Being half-Jap gives me a handicap. |
