Default My Perfect Bike...

I don't think it exists, but maybe somebody has some ideas. I'm thinking of selling my car, something I've had for 10+ years, so that's not really an easy thing for me. The Perfect Plan includes getting a beater for the Urban Environment to take the place of the Cage.

Requirements:

Around Town: KTM Duke II (out of production, but the ultimate hooligan...and this from a diehard Triumph fan (S3?)).

Travel Needs: R1200GS. That's what I want. Can't afford.

You get the idea...want a Duke around town, a long-hualer to get me back to Ohio from Chicago when I need to. Them Beemers are my favorite but they'se too 'spensive and nothing is a Duke around town but a Duke. So...what do I do?? I want the best of both worlds: an out-of-production motard and an affordable adventure tourer to get me the three hundy back home. .. V-Strom 650 seems great but not lithe like that Duke. I'm never going to make that compromise, huh?

Why not take a look at that new Aprilla vee twin 450 dual sport? I here thery're pretty good...but parts & soivice might be an issue...

Nothing beats a big Japanese dual sport for all around fun, fit one with a bikini fairing and presto, instant road eater.

Three hundred miles is *not* a long haul. Any non-dirt bike can do it, except maybe a Honda NS-50. Pick a bike that suits your fancy and has decent comfort for the seating position (and seat!), and then customize a bit as needed. Voila!

Shoot, I'd do 300 miles on my DRZ any time.

But it sounds like you really want a DL650 V-Strom, or a Buell Ulysses.

Default May be the fan will keep the deer away!

My Sat am jaunt took me thru the ADK's today. A Uly came in while I was fueling. That fan has to be heard to be believed! Bring on the water cooled engine.

That fan is insane. Drives me nuts.

350 miles isn't far for me (didn't mean to sound like you know who)...The problem is protection from the elements.

If I was to go buy a new bike today it would probably be a DL 1000 V Strom, I think that's about the best balance of commuter, tourer, back road bike and mild off road stuff like logging roads.
