It's actually from 1995. It's been on the site since the beginning of time but the date must have been changed when mo got sold to the new owners.

Every once in a while, some poor pasty geek in his Mom's basement somewhere wakes up with a start; slinging Cheeto's all over and upsetting his several half-consumed Frappacinos.
He realizes he hasn't brought any articles from the dusty archives of M.O. v1.0 up in a while, so he randomly picks one out of the old backup files, and posts them. We, the clamoring masses (okay, a few folks) hungrily jump on the new content, only to realize as we wait for the page to open fully that it is from the Times Long Past.
