Prejudice against motorcyclists by family or friends
During a recent visit to my aunt and uncle I mentioned that I had just made my first ride with a motorcycle touring group in San Diego, a 200-mile tour into the mountains to the NE. He immediately responded by asking me why I would associate myself with the sort of people who ride motorcycles - to him, they are a bunch of undesirables who ride loud machines, wear tattoos, take undue risks, etc etc.
Understand that my uncle is someone who believes in crop circles, chemtrails, 911Truth and a number of other conspiracy theories - not someone who's opinions I respect. He knows nothing of significance about motorcyclists and motorcycles - completely ignorant. I plan to bring this up with fellow club riders on my next ride - should make for an interesting and entertaining discussion. Who else has experienced crass prejudice like this against motorcyclists?

To be honest I think most of the guys here are pretty undesirable. I think the basic rule is as with all things, Give Respect and you get respect, act like an ******* and you'll get treated like an *******. There's always going to be people who don't like motorcycles, I personally just ignore them.

Could be worse. Back in the 70s the CHP made a point of hassling bikers who dared to ride through Malibu. The CHP was on a campaign against "outlaw" bikers which apparently meant anyone on a chopper. Today a lot of cops ride Harleys as recreation.
If all you have to worry about are the uninformed opinions of idiots consider yourself lucky.
