I'm all for being charitable but calling this anything other than a Harleyliner would be false advertising.
Talk about a copy! |

The copy exceeds the original handily in the engine bay, and they depreciate heavily too. 31K into this bike and it probably has a market value of less than half that.
I will probably buy one on the used market at some point. I am a cheap bastard, and I likes me some torque. This is my future post FZ1 ride... Last edited by Duken4evr : 05-02-2012 at 06:20 PM. |

"simply changing bodywork hardly counts as customizing a motorcycle around these parts. Star then added no less than 43(!) items straight from its accessories catalog to make this 2010/2012 hybrid stand out from the rest."
Technically, bolting on catalog chrome is "customizing," but it doesn't fit my definition of it. "when you add the cost of the bike ($17,490 in 2010), the accessories ($10,275.61), the Metzeler ME880 tires ($551.90) and of course the paint job ($3200), this custom Stratoliner Deluxe is worth $31,517.51." It may have cost $31,517.51, but is it worth $31,517.51? I think not.

Well, the bike will depreciate ruinously but at least $31K on the Yamaha won't lose you a much money as the $30K+ people spent on custom choppers during the late unlamented craze.

True, it's a functional if somewhat gaudy motorcycle that you could get some real world use out of. If you just like the look and don't care what it says on the tank the Yama-Stars are pretty good bikes from all I've seen.

I like the name.
S-T-R-A-T-O-L-I-N-E-R! You have to say it with a '50's teevee announcer voice for it to work though. AND WE NOW OFFER: STRATOLINER DE-LUXE! ( (With Retsyn!)

In a couple shots, the trailing edge of the left bag cover appears to me way out of line...Obviously this is a different bag than my Road Star, but did you torque it outta shape or is it just the angle of the camera. I love the color... as a trim on black, and I keep checking out the batwing....I appreciate the inspiration.

It's a nice bike, even if it's a "copy". If the cruiser-thing did "it" for me, I might be tempted. But I'm just not a cruiser-kinda-guy; not to mention I cannot sit for any length of time astride a gyno-couch any more than I can a racer's crouch.
