Uggh, I had the misfortune of travelling through Laughlin in 2002 during the annual river run. I was travelling east on 10 from San Diego where I'd spent the evening at a friend's house, and noticed a ton of bikes on trailers. At a rest area a guy told me he was going to Laughlin, which unlike Sturgis (he said) was all about riding. Made the mistake of riding up there on my Kawasaki Concours. The streets are packed, both sides of the road and the middle are full of parked cruisers and people drinking. Tens of thousands of people simply milling around drinking and wandering around the bikes. I got out as soon as I could. Leaving, bikes on trailers outnumbered bikes on the road by 15 to 1. When you see bikes, they are in a large group, slow and blocking traffic. Probably a great place to get drunk, but a lousy place to ride, at least it was back then.

As a Vista High grad I'm proud of my Vista peeps making it in MO!
OTOH, watching a bunch of fat, middle-aged people get drunk, dance and make out is the reason I went to Laughlin once, never to return. |
