Nothing...except how long have they been out.... Getting a little long in the tooth. Can't wait to see the new California in person. 8gal of fuel is carried a little high on the NTX don't you think?... Just asking...

Only the Racer gets a steel tank. Not the Stone. Not the Special.

If only the racer got the metal tank, I would write : "The finish is extraordinary, and its chromed fuel tank is now metal, instead of nylon like the other 2012 V7s."
Could some editor maybe clarify?

Not so fast Kee-mo-sabee, some peoples hearing isn't so precisely calibrated as yours. Just take a magnet with you and drop it on the tank, if it sticks it's metal, if it falls off it's plastic. Let science be your guide.

Buzz is sadly all too familiar with plastic tanks. After years of torment from his Ducati's self-destructing plastic tank, he can now tell you every make, model, and year of motorcycle that uses them. Alphabetically or by model year.

And BTW: blaming non-metal tank problems on Ethanol is horsecrap. I've got cheezy plastic gas tanks from WalMart that have held alcohol-contaminated gas for years without bloating, leaking, or otherwise failing. Maybe the alcohol has caused tanks to fail, but it's pretty gross failure on the manufacturer's part to produce tanks that can't handle the fuel used in the world's largest vehicle market.

I think the key to the failure is the sealed paint. Your cheap gas can allows vapors to pass through it. Coat it with some glossy, clear coated paint and she'll twist like a politician during an election year.

I think we can all agree ethanol is a total disaster yet it's still mandated.

Hmmm....that's an interesting theory. But, even though I agree with you that ethanol fuel is a really bad idea, I still think Ducati blew it. AFAIK, they didn't seem to really FIX the problem...they just replaced tank after tank.

Did they ever completely resolve your tank problem?

No, the settlement in the Class Action lawsuit extended the warranty (tank only) for another 18 months. Which means, they'll keep replacing them until the warranty runs out.

I'm sure they are pi$$ed at their supplier. The bike is no longer in production so the idea of them re-tooling a metal tank is probably out the window.

I have my own stash of tanks at the dealer!
