I really like this bike. That's a lotta damn dough though. I'd prefer to put the detachable stuff on a more standard soft tail and leave out some of the extra chrome.

H-D came out with the detachable hardware back in the 90s and it worked great on my Low Rider. I could go from pack mule to stripped down in seconds.

H-D has some nice models out now.

Can't wait for the adventure tourer!

I didn't know you had a Low-Rider. Maybe you're not a total loss after all. I did the same thing with mine, Memphis Shades quick-detach windscreen, removable bags, and a touring seat when the Mrs. would ride along.

About the review:

I guess the idea is to ride it to Daytona or Sturgis, put the bags and screen in the hotel, and then hit the bars. Did you get to ride the bike long enough to get a feel for how it would work on a road trip? There's a big difference between a few hours on the freeway and a fe days...

The level of detail on CVOs is amazing. I compared a few to the standard versions when I worked at Rossmeyer; an Ultra and a Fat Boy. There wasn't one fastener, one bit of paint, nothing that wasn't somehow tweaked, chromed, or upgraded on the CVOs vs. the standards. The DVO paint jobs are a story themselves; the layering, depth and detail of the finishes has to be seen to be believed.

Having said that, $30k for a Softail? No way, Josie.

Going from the K1600 to ANY Harley is going to be like riding a bus. You've crossed the Rubicon my friend, there's no going back.

I still would like a HOG for puttering around the beach. The 1600 is kind of overkill in bumper to bumper beach traffic.

Well that "72" Sporty looks to be the perfect beach/tavern hopper to me, grow a little hipster chin beard, break out the Chucks and metalflake helmet and off you go.

Wanna' borrow an oversize (for you anyway) flannel shirt? you'll nail the retro grunge look hands down! Tell 'em you just blew in from Seattle and vaguely refer to chillin' on Queen Anne for bonus points!

My beard is too gray for that.

The hipsters now are all growing Rollie Fingers mustaches.

It's pretty funny being at the beach seeing a bunch of surf bums all waxed up.
