People always say that Harleys are the benchmark that other cruisers are compared to. This article is a review of a Harley and the authors drew a comparison to Victory. I have to wonder if Victory is becoming the new benchmark of comparison.

I owned a 2009 Street Bob, in the matte red paint job.
Sweet bike. The only difference with the one now is mine had the silver powder coated engine. It would have looked better in the current black finish, but of course Harley brought that back in 2010... It was my first Harley and I bought it because I had ridden others, and dug the feel. But I chose this model because it looked so bad a$$. To me it was the perfect cruiser look without any gaudiness. Harley really gets the fueling right - ran perfectly all the time, no lean spots, surging etc. Only problem was that in stock form it was a roaster due to being really lean for emmisions. I have a feeling the current one would be the same if not worse. Didn't notice it on the open road but in LA traffic - ouch! So I richened it up with a Vance & Hines PC, Harley Stage 1 filter kit and V&H straight shots slip ons. This worked perfectly but even with the 'quiet' baffles it was too loud. If I could do it again, I would have kept the stock pipes, bought a PowerCommander and had a custom map on a dyno made for it to richen it a bit to cool it down. This way it still would have stayed quiet. The suspension on this bike does suck though, and the handling felt like it was too low at the rear. I replaced the stock shocks with some Progressive 440 13.5 (I think ) which lifted the rear, allowed to actually absorb bumps and it now handled very neutrally. Really became a pleasant riding bike. This is all in the past tense as riding home from work a teenage girl who had her license for a couple of months t-boned me. And then claimed I ran into her, sideways... Nice. (The legal crap resulting eventually worked its way out with her 100% at fault). Some snaps: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Thanks, sorry if it was a bit of a downer but on the upside see how real 'merican steel totals a Subaru?

Thanks!
Currently in the garage I have some scoots (Vespa 250 and Vespa PX150) and a 2003 Ducati St4s that I have owned since new. I have a deposit down on the 2012 Guzzi Griso SE. I was going to get one last year but thankfully didn't seeing the 2012 model has a $2000 price drop from 2011! |
