This is the bike for you if you are a fan of 70s "Special" styling.

Imagine how silly the rider would look if he mounted forward controls. He'd look like he was ready foy a gynecological examination.

Hell, that's what 87% of the 40,000-odd open-piped Harleys I saw this weekend (and that went by my house) for Blues, Bikes, and BBQ looked like.

True but the extra splayed-legged position due to the Guzzi's cylinders would add a amusing extra element to the concept.
