Next time, use a handful of wormgear radiator-clamps. More than sufficient to compress a small spring like that. Safer by several orders of magnitude.

Roger that.
I actually told George to wait and I ran to Auto Zone and got a loaner spring compressor. But he didn't wait and wanted to prove a point that his mantra of "**** special tools" would hold true all the time. At least no one lost an eye. |

Yup. They restored that and another cb750 and took them on a 13,000 mile trip. You should check out our channel on Youtube.
