So the GSX-R wins by the slimmest of margins....but the ZX-6 is sustantially less expensive at $9,999 versus $11,599. $1,600 is a lot of scratch for tires, pipes, whatever.

The comment on the GSX-R intake sound struck a chord with me; the VFR I owned had a really distinct intake honk that I loved.

I dunno about you guys, but if you're splitting hairs to pick a price-independent winner, and one of the choices is $1600 cheaper, the real-world choice seems clear to me....

Yeah, if cost is a big issue (and Suzuki can't cut a similar deal on a Gixxer), the ZX is the winner.

Nice to see Suzuki officially back on top, but I have to agree that the Kaw looks impressive when price is factored in.

For years now (many model iterations) the GSXR600 has been praised for having a particularly pleasant intake sound on the throttle. I wonder what it is about the intake tract that is (and remains) so unique on this bike? This is actually a fairly important factor in my view, because sound is such a frequent and strongly apparent part of the riding experience - maybe more important day-to-day than the minutiae (sp?) of 9/10s handling and braking performance. Any idiot street rider can roll on the throttle in a straight line..and so we all do!

I agree on the sound thing. That is why I wanna own a Triumph Triple someday. Did the TL1000 with a Yoshimura full exhaust thing. It was the weapon of choice for setting off car alarms all over town!

My current dirt bike is a Husaberg FE450. It's intake trumpet points right at the rider due to the slanted engine layout. Unexpected bonus, an amazing bad ass intake sound when in the throttle and an interesting whistling, like a turbo on overrun when off throttle
