I'd go for the Z myself. I had a blast tearing around Daytona on one last year. The F800s are girl bikes.

Fun Facts to Know and Tell! Thomas Jefferson wrote that the 1st Amendment erected a "wall of separation" between the church and the state (James Madison said it "drew a line," but it is Jefferson's term that sticks with us today). The phrase is commonly thought to mean that the government should not establish, support, or otherwise involve itself in any religion. Its.......A FACT! |

"Blast," "tearing" ... yep, you are on the right track for describing the Z1000. It has shorter gearing, I'll note. If my memory serves me, it redlines at like 11,500 and in first gear can barely top 70 mph (if not in the low-mid 60s, can't recall now). My old R1 redlines at 11,750 and hits indicated 80 in first. Coupled with its higher CG, the torquey Z pulls second-gear power wheelies, and is more fun than a barrel full of drugged monkeys. Add 25 more hp on top and keep the midrange, and that would be truly entertaining. Would have to do something about the stepped saddle though. Too compact for my long legs on the long haul. |

Choose between the Z and the BMW800? I will take the Z and it's horsepower out the wazoo, thanks. I am kinda simple that way ![]() If buying new today, I would probably go with the Ninja 1000. I like the bigger tank, style and midrange pull. Still, the FZ is a compelling bargain in light of the above charts and lower real world entry fee. Also, the FZ1's manic rush from 9 to 12K rpm post mods while sitting upright behind a handlebar has to be experienced to be believed. It never grows old...
