So, does this lack of forum feedback thus far indicate American riders aren't interested in this type of bike...?

Personally the only bikes that really enthuse me are bikes with real utility. This is why wundersportbikes tend to bore me and place below cruisers in desirability. This does not mean I don't recognize how amazing they are for what they are intended to do. The bikes that interest me most are the "old-fashioned" standards, ATs, BMW oilheads, Guzzis, Triumphs, etc. Throw on some bags and you're ready to ride and shop or whatever.

That being said I would love nothing more than to see bikes like the FZ8 succeed and sell in large numbers. These are the bikes that you seldom see for resale because the people who buy them use them and hang onto them. I see tons of CBRs and KZs in the local ads but very seldom see Bandit1200s or FZ1s for sale despite their not infrequent appearance on the roads.

However, American buying habits seem to be set in stone. Look at the people who come to MO for new bike advice. Almost always the cruiser or race replica. Why get enthused about another short lived standard? It seems that only bikes for weekend riders sell in the USA. And looking at the low miles on most used bikes I think I'm correct in this.

I guess I've become jaded and just assume that the FZ8 will disappear after a couple years like the excellent Z750. Now THAT's the bike for the streets and freeways of LA or any other large urban environment. If I had to move to LA I'd pick up a Z750 in a heartbeat. Or this FZ8.

Yep, the Z750 is one of the most underappreciated bikes ever. I hope the FZ8 doesn't suffer the same fate.

This is soooo the bike I should be buying, if I were buying another bike right now. It's not as lusty as the Ducati offerings, but it's probably every bit as functional and sporting as the standards of yore.

Danger, when are we going to read the review?

I really want the faired FZ8 (Fazer). I am hoping they bring that over this year too as it was going to be my next bike. Please Yamaha.

Well, I have a 2nd Gen '06 FZ1 and love it to bits. The FZ1 has a very free spinning engine. No doubt the FZ8 will be a fun to spank revver, just like it's big bro, perhaps even more with the likely better breathing and burning updated 4 valve head and smaller bore. It will handle well too, for a bike of it's type. The frame looks the same as the FZ1.

Hmm. Same bore, 4 valve head. Maybe Yamaha will update the FZ1 with a 4 valve head someday. Seems like it would be easy to do at this point. Of course we all want the crossplane crank. Maybe next revision, if there is one.

I doubt the FZ8 will sell in the US though. Our loss that we ignore this class of bike. Hi performance broadband "standards" like the Z1000, FZ1 and now the FZ8 are practical and yet a complete gas to ride on real roads. Seems everybody wants to be a bad boy or a racer wannabe. Bikes like this say "I just wanna ride" Be that as it may, these bikes can play hard when given the go ahead. Love that versatility. They are like the "good girl" who still knows how to get down and dirty. Nobody knows. It is better that way

I'll look for one in five years, when I get tired of my Speed Triple. Right?

I think the buying habits of Americans will change in the coming years and a bike like this I think is proof of that slow change. Unfortunately I think the economy will hopefully have everything to do with people buying smaller bikes into the future as well as the manufactures producing smaller cheaper bikes.
