Voyager,

Since I have no experience with, or knowledge of the three bikes you have in the picture, could you gin up a post to describe them?

Engine/transmission, suspension, electrical, etc. Maybe some history of the brand/model?

The only recumbent motorcycle (if that is the correct term) I'm at all familiar with is the Gurney Alligator.

All I found in a quick Google session is this: 1990 SCL Voyager concept, prototype, spy shots

And this here: That is one crazy frame! Voyager Prototype

Engine is a Reliant 850cc from a small car. But it is tiny, fuel efficient and light. (More like a Japanese K car than a cast iron V8!) From the flywheel back it is Guzzi. Suspension is Hagon twin struts front and back.

Perhaps a view of the chassis will show where the 'weight' is. Low and down. Notice the strong 'crash' structure at the front - designed to push cars out of the way and lift the bike upwards so you go into the accident 'keel first' and the collapsible rear structure so that if you are tail ended the sub-frame will collapse and the shock dissipated. I get @65mpg (imperial) in the UK (I think that is about 55mpg in the US - my sums might be wrong) and the top speed is @130mph. It weighs @275kg ready to roll - about the same as my mates Guzzi Jackal.

The 'history'? An old TV programme about them can be seen here - should answer most of that.

Yeah I think Dan and Justin were pretty shocked to discover there was a complete FF (feet first) development scene in the UK after he finished his Alligator. A few of us met up with them at Goodwood in '02 (I think). The Alligator is not my sort of FF but they have done a really great job and made a superb 'sports' bike.

Holly hell look at that monstrosity,.... Wait still laughing. I'm not sure if you've seen a Ford F250 but that back subframe portion that you claim will dissipate may only work in your country. Baaaaaaahaaaa,...still laughing.

Just goes to show the vast universe of taste whenever the words "to each his own" are uttered. But seriously how accessible is this scooter when it's time to service it?
