I am a fan of old DDR bikes, not of the DD Republic.

Man, that blue bike is absolutely a VLX. No doubt. 27yrs of riding and 15 years of sales and insurance- I don't get these things wrong. The bike that was above it looks like a VT (maybe 1100) but the frame looks like a 90's setup. Just sayin.....

All the bikes on the photos are a rare sub-model of Honda Steed 400.
No disrespect, I guess the blue one does look like a VLX indeed.
But it is not.

It was not easy but I learned some more info about this rare bike.
And here are the main characteristics of the bike that I am looking for:

1. It is special a Honda Steed 400 sub-model.
Most probably a special edition of Honda Steed VCL 400.
They call it Honda Steed Classic.
Don't waste your time using these keywords - Google brings bikes that look different.
But I used Google Translator and I was able to translate a Taiwanese ad. The ad said "Honda Steed 400 - Classic".

2. This bike lives in Japan / Tawian / The Philipines.
You can't find it on the American/European market. No wonder that people think it is some custom bike.

3. It has a couple of very distinct features that can not be found on the "Standard" Honda Steed 400 models (VLX, VLS).

Check these features out in the pic below.

There is no doubt that this is a STOCK bike.
The only problem is that it is not well known outside of Asia.
Hense all the confusion.

I am looking for MORE info about this bike.

The first one with the fishtail is a pretty cool looking bike, I love that 30's style. They don't sell the Steed model here or Canada that I know of so I don't really know what to tell you. I wish they did though, it would be an improvement over the cookie cutters they do sell.

I think that "Hinda Steed" is basically the same as "Honda VLX Shadow".

The difference is that the steed is 400 cc.
There is an American market Steed that is 600 cc, though.

I guess this 600cc Steed is absolutely identical with the VLX Shadow 600.
Hence all the confusion.

That being said, I am looking for a specific "flavor" of Honda Steed 400.
The one from the pics above.
It looks like a vintage bike and totally kicks ass.
But it looks like this special edition bike does not live in America.

So? Find a VLX, customize it to your liking.

Instant "Steed".

As for the fenders being swapped: looks like VT750 Shadow has wider, thicker and less ornamented (rear fender is less curved at the rear end) fenders.
They look similar but are still quite different.

Here is yet another photo of a Honda Steed that has this type of fenders.
It's from Taiwan again:

It's a custom fender. It's not hard to shave down a fender and make mounting brackets. Don't see what your big mystery is.

If this is a custom fender, then the other 3 bikes from the picture that I posted on the second page of the htread must use exactly the same custom fender.
This is a stock Steed model that uses this type of vintage-styled fender.

@The_AirHawk, yeah, I sure can make my own custom fenders but why bother when there is a stock model with this kind of fender?
Only one type of Steed has the vintage look and I am trying to find more info and to buy one.
