Default Shiver

What they should do is make the Shiver into an adventure bike instead of trying to compete head on with the monsters. Put some knobbies on it, big gas tank, and an off road suspension, hard mounting points for panniers. The competition is the KLR 650, a bit too tall and it is not EFI. Then there is the BMW F800GS, way over priced. KTM, overpriced and too tall.

Not a bad idea, but it wouldn't be much of an adventure bike because it's quite heavy. It would also cost more after fitting proper "adventure" gear on it like hand guard, bash plate, bigger windscreen, thicker seat, off-road wheels, etc. It would weigh about 500 lbs. Plus, the chassis geometry is designed for sport and city riding. And you can't complain about ADV bikes being too tall, as they need to have extra ground clearance to clear obstacles. not to mention long-travel suspension to soak up big bumps.

Like life, everything is a compromise. From the sounds of what you're looking for, maybe a Versys would do the trick.

So who is this bike for? The author suggests it would be a good bike for beginners. I beg to differ...no price mentioned, but I expect it's over $10k; more than a noob would want to risk dropping. Mediocre handling, power.

I was thinking more in terms of just the 750 engine as the starting platform. The end product would look nothing like the Shiver. Yes they could make it into something more like the Versys except with style that someone besides it mother could love. The new Multistrada 1200 is not really off roadable but you could do some unpaved exploring with it. Since the death of the Multistrada 620, there is a huge hole in Ducati's line up. At least until they do a 796 or 848 non-computerized suspension Multistrada. Perhaps they could exploit that hole in Ducati's line up............at least until Ducati releases some sort of mid range Multistrada based on the 796 or 848. Perhaps something like the new Moto Morini Scrambler that will never make it to the U.S. turf.

That seat looks really good. Why can't more bikes have a seat that good? Overall a beautiful bike and something you won't see on every street corner.

One of the bike mags had a few paragraphs on a new Aprillia; yet another $20k "Adventure" bike. It's set to compete with the GS, Tenere, etc.

Guys, they are working on 750 and 1200 Adventure bikes. Aprilia will be ready to show them by fall accoding to MCN.
