Back in the 60s I wrote a monthly column for CYCLE GUIDE called OVER THE HANDLEBARS. It ran for 7 years. I also sold short stories and articles to other motorcycle magazines such as CYCLE WORLD and MOTORCYCLIST. Later, these stories and essays were published in book form. I updated the book and added about a third more content in 2006, when it was republished and made available througjh Amazon.com. The stories cover a wide spectrum of motorcycling - ranging from the humorous ("Marriage and Motorcycling") to the true, such as a bunch of us getting lost on street bikes crossing dirt roads in Death Valley and m6 40 day ride across America. To read a free sample of my stories, check out hubpages//dongately.com. Be sure to clcik on more when you get my page. The free stories are under motorcycle short stories, but there are 8 different "hubs" about motorcycling. Or, if you like, you can email me at
