I came to the discussions section because of the weight issue also. But, in terms of ease of riding I'll take an extra 50lbs for a lot more power any day. It's what makes touring bikes so affable.
BMW used to be proud of always being the lighter alternative. The weight difference here doesn't seem to make up for the different engine configuration, execution being equal.
