I wonder how many incarnations of 'Americas first motorcycle' I'll have to see in my lifetime. The real ones were long gone before I was born.

Yeah, let's shed a tear for the poor rich guys who have to step down to a Harley CVO instead of getting the Chief! Never mind the 10-20 million Americans looking to find a full-time job. And thank goodness for Dub-yah taking great care of the banking industry! ;)

I think Indian will find plenty of RUBs to buy their bikes; they have the right formula: make it exclusive, don't compete in HD's core market, build on demand and not in mass production. It will work for them.

"The vibes won’t be an issue for someone who buys the Chief for profiling down at the coffee shop, but some riders who are serious about covering a lot of miles at a gulp may wish for something smoother."

The vibes are a complete non-issue. Anybody buying this bike isn't going to ride it anywhere; they'll trailer it to their destination, and then ride it to the bars. Or they'll get on their BMW when they want to go somewhere on 2 wheels.

It's not "America's First Motorcycle." It's an entirely new company ripping off an old venerated name. No amount of PR will change the fact that it is a marketing scheme.

America's first motorcycle company was Waltham which built motorcycles in 1900.

"Charles H. Metz is credited with being the first to coin the term 'motor cycle,' first used in an 1899 advertisement for the upcoming Orient. Waltham Manufacturing's 1900 Orient Light Roadster and 'Orient-Aster' were America's first mass-production motor driven cycles, which were also known simply as the 'Orient Motorcycle.'"

The only motorcycle companies that have produced motorcycles continuously since the early 1900s are HD and Triumph.
