Does anybody have any experience or knowledge of the effectiveness or praticality of adding forward controls to a Yamaha V Star 1300 or similar bike?

If you like your legs blown apart and no ability to stand on the pegs in case you run something over, they are for you.

Most likely YamaStar or Kuryakin would have something you could use. I like forward controls myself because I have long legs and glass knees, but then I like apehangers too so what do I know...

Like anything else it's a package, the forwards need to fit into the bars- peg- seat relationship for everything to work right. Just slapping on forward controls may or may not work with what else you have on that particular bike

Put on highway pegs so you can stretch out whenever you like. No need for those stupid forward controls that herring eating limeys seem to love.

I don't like forward controls either. I do like to be able ot change foot position no matter where the controls are located. For me, that is the key to long distance comfort.

Perhaps you could change your foot position to up that Utah crickets ass.........

I'd need ape hangers with forward controls, since my knees are to the sky with forward controls. That or hook them to the front axle bolt somehow.

Hmm, some drilled out BMX pegs may work...
