Today it is. I'm not sure about tomorrow. I think it's a mistake to assume that something that can't be done today is "impossible." Really all I'm saying here is that time and again when popular opinion held that something couldn't be done, somebody came along and did it anyway.

Well, that's true but no one knows which technology is going to advance or where the sudden breakthroughs are going to occur. We've spent billions on various pie-in-the-sky projects and gotten nothing. The Dept of Energy's fusion boondoggle is a prime example.

All I'm saying is that it is dangerous to make policy based on technology that doesn't exist. If we started building pebble-bed reactors now with the money we waste on the Dept of Energy we would be free of imported oil pretty quickly. I like that idea. Scrag the DofE and use the money to build reactors.
