I was just curious because I watched documentaries on all the major criminal biker gangs and they ALL required their members to ride a Harley Davidson. There were even rules for the displacement - most of the times it is 1000 cc or more.

Hell's Angels, Outlaws, Bandidos, Mongols, Pagans - according to the documentaries, all those clubs used Harleys exclusively. Not even Indian bikes were allowed.

Thanks to this topic, I learned that some of those criminal gangs do indeed allow the use of non-Harley bikes.

Whats so surprises you so much about this rudimetary topic, just curious.

Really I suppose it's how you define a criminal gang as opposed to a motorcycle club....

I would define a M/C as a bunch of fellows who get together to ride bikes and hang out. As with any group of people, some will be decent folks and others will be less so. A good club will weed out the shifty little pr*cks because no one wants to deal with them.

A criminal gang on the other hand is going to be involved in whatever makes them money like drugs, prostitution, gun-running you name it. The fact that some of these people ride motorcycles doesn't make the motorcyclists per se` they're just criminals who should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law

^ Ooooh, noooo!
It's the SQREAM gay outlaw club! Baddest of all the bad 1% MCs.
They control the illegal buttplug market.
Run for cover! (and you know exactly what parts to cover, don't you?)

Ah, there's nothing quite like the exhilaration of running from an Outlaw Gang of Homosexual Bikers, knowing that; if you're caught, you will be anally-raped to Insanity......... (unless you've got a 12-gauge Broo... er "Boom" stick to fight them off!)

You don't suppose that's what happened to The Kook, do you?

But then again, he'd probably enjoy the attention.

Those bikes are made in the USA too, right?

What about American outlaw biker gangs that ride European or Japanese bikes?
Are there any?
Actually, this is a pretty interesting question. As someone stated, the original "outlaw gangs" of the late 40s and early fifties were just clubs that didnt belong to the AMA and were maybe a little more rowdy than AMA would like (the 1% tag came from the AMA claiming that only 1% of bikers were troublemakers). The Hollister and Riverside incicents of 47/48 were basically examples of these clubs getting drunk and rowdy but there wasnt really any malicious or criminal intent. These clubs didnt specify HD's or Indians, but since most at the time rode them ,the clubs tended to be mostly HD/indian with a smattering of Britbikes and BMW's (one member of the Boozefighters even rode a Crocker ).As time went on, some of the clubs drifted more towards the hardcore fringe with a decided criminal element. One of the first was Barger and the Oakland Hells Angels. Barger had a set of "rules" which included the requirement to ride a Harley. Since many of the clubs that sprung up in the 70's patterned themselves after the Angels, many of them adapted this rule but it was in no way universal. I dont know if any of the current clubs still have the HD only rule , but most still ride HD's. I do know that Barger has since stated he wishes they had ridden Hondas and I have heard stories that he now has a Victory. Course ol' Sonny will say or do anything if he thinks there maybe a buck in it.
LR, the pictures you refer to were probably of the old Chicago Outlaws. After the young turks killed the Prez, Johnny Davis,in the late 60's and turned into a more hardcore group, moving the center of their operation out of Chicago, I believe they rode mostly all HD's although I dont know if they had a rule.

Hey Neal. Yup it was the old Chicago Outlaws that rode bikes other than Harleys. I knew and currently know some OL's and I do not believe they have the 'Harley Only' rule. They just pretty much all ride them.

Thanks, Neal.
Very interesting info.
I did a search on Crocker motorcycles and they seem to rule. Awesome oldtimers.
