I wonder how an Electra Glyde whould have faired on that same Trans-American road?

FYI your foot kept falling off on the left and not the right because the fairing is not the same size on the left as it is on the right. Its not very apparent but if you install the SW Motech crash bars, the bars are exactly the same width left and right but you'll find they almost touch the plastic on the left while there is a 2" gap on the right.

Seriously, great story, I envy your trip. What other types of bikes went along, and how did the KLR compare to them?

Hopefully you can still get Kawi to replace the piston rings under warranty. Don't know your sale date or total mileage so good luck. Look into the Ricor suspension upgrades being raved about all over the 'net. Thanks for singing our KLR's praises.
