So, I want to know what the terms like xr, yz, crf, etc... before the engine size mean. I know the basics kind of, but want to know what they mean so if I ever buy a new bike I know what I'm looking at.

Motocross bikes:

Honda CRxxxR, CRFxxxR
Yamaha YZ, YZF
Kawsaki KX, KXF
Suzuki RM, RM-Z

Enduro Bikes:

Honda CRFxxxX, (old) XRxxxR
Yamaha WRxxxF, (old) YZxxxWR, (old) ITxxx
Kawasaki KLX
Suzuki DR-Z, RM-X, (old) PE

On-Off road bikes (Dual Sport)

Honda XRxxxL, (old) XLxxxR
Yamaha WRxxxR, XT
Kawasaki KLXxxxS, KLR
Suzuki DR-ZxxxS, DR

These acronyms have no real meaning.

I won't get into KTM, Husqvarna, TM, Husaberg, GasGas, or Beta. Your head would explode.
