If you don't race professionally it really makes no difference.

It's global warming. The hotter air is restricting power output, and the manufacturers are doing all they can to just keep up. '05 what the sweet spot, as they say, with the tech besting the weather. By '20, we'll be lucky to get 25 bhp out of a liter-bike.

Why you want a 05 ZX6R now?

"I'm no newb, probably bought my first bike before most were in kindergarten here."

Really? You must be 70 then?

Fastest where? Off the line? In the quarter mile? Top speed? Around the track? Which track?

The assumption on this forum is that the rider is usually the deciding factor in how fast a bike is. And the changes year to year in sportbikes are somewhat of a non-issue because most riders can't get the most out of the bikes due to their skill level (not everyone can ride like Rossi). That said, there was a difference when Kawasaki went from a 636 cc engine to a 599 engine (in 2007), and the 2009 ZX-6R is lighter and has more power (according to the comparos) than the 2008 model.
