From the few hill shots on TV there looked to be nobody there, my favorite spot between the bushes half way up the hill was nearly vacant. I dont think Indy had anything to do with it. Its the 4th and lodging around the area was everything. Hence my going 710 miles to Miller for WSB instead of 110 to USGP as I have since 05. Last year when the date was announced on Sunday everyone went from excited to "are you kidding me, I wont be there." Then with the corkscrew newsletter offering discounts for months leading up showed that even more. I was going to go down on Sunday but waited too long for my ticket, it went from $50, to $60 + $8 handling fee and you had to ride to embassy suites to pick up the ticket. I always sneak in from the salinas side so that was another 20 miles out of the way to get the ticket. Subsequently my couch was very spacious watching it on fox. And unlike CBS fox had broadcasters that almost knew what was going on. Kinda weird hearing Greg White on fox though. Did they announce next years date? If its not on the 4th I'll book my cabin tomorrow.

Appaerantly according to the Local News cast the race brought in a lot of money. Even with the attendance record off from past years.

Well, when you gouge everyone that attends for hotels, food, drink, parking, and tickets, I'd say there is lots of money made.

What $300 a night at the Super 8 in Salinas is gouging? Who'd a thunk.

MO got a small house (part of a B&B) that slept four (in separate beds...) in swanky Carmel for a little over $325/night. Not too bad.

What a tough way to make a living. My heart goes out to you, Mr. Duke.
From the article: "Randy Mamola on the two-up Ducati Desmosedici" I know what "two-up" means to me, but surely it means something different in this context?

I guess the world really is different there in Cali when 325 bucks a night is not bad. I thought not bad is more like 50 bucks, but what do I know?

Huh? Randy gives rides to VIPs on a Desmosedici that has been modified to accept a passenger. I haven't yet been given a ride, but I'm sure I'd poop my pants.

Holy crap, you actually DID mean "2-up" in the context that I'd use it. So it's like the Richard Petty Ride-Along deal, hapless victims get on the back and go tearing around the track? NO THANKS, I haven't been on the back of a bike since I was 13, and have no intention of ever getting on the back again. I'd rather walk...
