Caught for Improper Tag $ 1000 fine

Last night a cop stopped me for an improper tag and fined me $ 1141. wtf? I eliminated the original tag holder kit and screwed the tag all the way at the bottom of the mufflers. It is pretty seenable standing behind the bike. Is there anyway I can have this fine waive off, what if I put it the way it was originally and take the pictures to court? Please help cant afford 1000.

What state? CHP in CA seems to be passing out "fix-it" tickets for the lack of a front plate and tinted windows on autos.
Getting a "put your plate where it belongs" and prove it at the police dept. talk makes more sense than a $1000+ ticket.

hell yea it makes sense, I would have respected this cop if he had given me some sort of warning. All this **** happened in FLORIDA.

Take pics, clear ones. Fix it. Take more pics. Go to traffic court and be nice, be apologetic, talk to the prosecutor. Tell him/her you have no problem paying something because you realize that, even though you had the best of intentions, you screwed up. You're not looking to get off with a warning, you just want the fine to be reasonable and reflect the actual danger you posed to society (none). Hopefully the prosecutor has a real live head on his shoulders and will agree with you. If they won't budge, either ask for time to pay it off, or hire a lahwya (something you probably don't want to do since money's an issue...).

This works in traffic court in Chicago. I know, my friends are the prosecutors. $90-minimum fines become $15 because the defendant plays nice and tells all the reasons he can't afford to pay up.

I'm in South Florida. I got pulled over for speeding on my old HD. I had the same plate that I got when I got the bike, it had been on there for at least 10 years. Each year, I put the new sticker on it. The cop looked at my plate and went nuts. The sticker number is supposed to match the plate number (I didn't know; never occured to me to look). Anyway, he went apeshirt, like the bike was stolen. "Bet the serial numbers don't match either do they?" What an *******. He wrote a ticket, I had to go to court. It turned out they'd mailed me a new hard tag about 4 years earlier that I didn't get because I moved. Thankfully the judge threw out the tag ticket and the speeding ticket too. Said the officer should have checked the records via radio.

Get a traffic lawyer. They'll get you off for their $75 fee and a hundred bucks in court fees.
