Victory screwed it up royally from the very beginning. Excuse moi if I sound like an old big bore here (geddit?) but I said this already few years ago:

The bikes are too close to Harley. Why they didn’t do a 2.1 litre engine (like Kawi) from day one. Today, everyone and everyone’s horny girlfriend would know Victory is the über-harley.

But no, lets go fight overwhelming enemy on enemy’s turf with enemy’s rules. What’s wrong with these people? Haven’t they never heard of Porter’s theories about differentiation?

Dig the Virago wheels!

A friend has a Victory 92C with windshield and hard bags. Pretty nice bike. Top notch quality. None of the rattle-trap feeling that you get with HDs. For me however the fact that I can get a Tiger for less makes any of these $13K+ cruisers non-starters. Heck I could get a DL1000 and a DR650. BrowningBAR could get 5 motorcycles for that! 6!

Mmmmmmm. Porter. Better than lager by far. Although I never saw beer consumption as an economic theory. Though now that you mention it it does have it's attractions.

Otherwise, can't disagree much with your comment. Triumph succeeded by offering something a bit different and has expanded sales nicely over the years. Ducati, Moto guzzi same same with solid niche markets. Victory is still stuck in the 7K units per year range. Maybe their new 5 year warranty will delay the inevitable long enough for the economy to recover. It's gonna take longer than the pie-in-the-sky year the "experts" are predicting. The same "experts" who got us in this mess.

you mean the "best and brightest" that we have to pay massive retention bonus's to for .....umm......running the company into the ground?......

I think Victories are nice enough bikes and I actually do see one from time to time around here. However like our esteemed colleague stated, they screwed the pooch when they went for the V Twin cruiser angle.

The Vision on the other hand is a step in the right direction, some guy at work rides one most days and in tangerine and silver it's a fine looking bike, definately not a cookie cutter
