Question Hay there

Hey there..

I am a 24 year old dude looking to buy my first bike.
I am pretty heavy set at about 250 pounds, and 190 cm tall.

I was thinking in the line of a suzuki gsx-650F as it has gotten so good Reviews, but i am concerned that it cant haul my fat ass around.

So any other suggestion or comment would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, trust me. That bike has more than enough power to get you killed in a big hurry. You should read through the sticky threads in the new rider's forum. There's solid reasoning in the idea of starting out on a smaller used bike.

If you want something that big look for less cylinders, like the Ninja 250, 500 or maybe the 650.

A side note, NEVER listen to your friends, family, ect. most of them know nothing or THINK they know something (Which is far worse) do the research so YOU know something.

Well here is the thing. I live in a little island group called The Faroe Islands, With a lot of freaking mountains. It is impossible to get a good used bike up here, and to import is way to expensive. We don´t have a raiders course, we only learn when we take the license and by doing.

Sorry cant fit my ass on a ninja. Well i can but my back is killing me after 20 min.

I believe the GSX650 is essentially a Bandit. Not the worst choices we've heard for a first bike, but still not a good choice.

Buy used, go cheap, and get a less powerful bike. For many reasons. The bike you think you like right now may not be the bike you like once you begin riding. Plus a cheap used bike is far better choice when you drop it...and you will drop it.

The other reason why you should go with a less powerful bike so you don't die while trying to figure out how to ride. Seriously. There as some big fat asses on this forum and a smaller bike is still capable of pushing around even the fattest ass.

If you inadvertently blip the throttle on a less powerful bike there is far less of a chance of something ugly happening to you.

Read the Newbie threads.
Buy gear
Buy a cheap, used bike.
Learn to ride
Sell the cheap used bike for nearly the same amount that you bought it for.
Buy the bike you want.

In that order.

Look at a Ninja 500R. They have been around for many years and you should be able to find a used one.

The smaller ninjas have a more upright seating position. Especially the 500. Now, if you will excuse me, I need to Google "The Faroe Islands" and try to figure out where the hell you are located.

Holy crap, man!

I just Googled "The Faroe Islands" and the first thing that comes to mind is; How the hell did you end up there?!

Yeah, based on the fact that you live on an island that I am having a hard time finding anything that looks like a small town, I am going to have to agree with you and say that the used bike market is probably slim. Hell, the new bike market is probably quite limiting.

I'll tell you what, give us a list of motorcycles that available in your area and we will try to point you in the right direction.

If you get the chance, post up some photos of your town and your roads. From the satellite imagery I saw it looks like you could have some fun mountain roads to ride on.

Dude!- Enduro!
I'd get a Suzuki DR650 or a DRZ400 if I were you. I'm 265 and play with a friend's DRZ400sm in the hills all the time. Not the most powerful, but it will easily do 80mph. More than fun and cheap to own and maintain. A lot less then the 650F, too.

I just did the Wiki look up. Sounds like a nice place to explore. What's the weather like? Could it support a Motorcycle/Snowmobile tour business and what's the percentage of natives that speak english? Those are just a few questions for our new member. 'Cause, WOW that must be an interesting place to live.
