Hi there everyone! My Names Rich. I've always wanted a motorcycle but never really got into it, so Im just a newbie. I am a car guy, I have a 1966 Dodge Polara Project Im working on now. it has a 383 2bbl automatic. Heres a video I made for youtube - YouTube - 1966 Dodge Polara

Heres my Problem though. Being a newbie to Motorcycles, I dont know exactly what to look for. I dont know if anyone has seen the movie "The Lords of Flatbush" But the character "chico" has the style of bike I would like to have. Just a cheap motorcycle a kid might have growing up in the 50's/60's. Im not really into Hondas or anything like that, although I like that style also. Any Help/advice would be Great. Thanksa lot!

Read the New Rider thread in the Learning To Ride forum Take the MSF course. Buy gear. *Then* go look for a motorcycle. And just remember that if you buy an old bike, you'll probably be spending as much time fixing it as riding it. Though that might be just what you're looking for.

You shoulda been here last week. A guy had a *****in Yamaha R5 for cheap.

If you said a bit more about what kind of bikes you like it would help. Google "First motorcycle choices" and you'll get a lot of good ideas.

Ida thought the trivia gods would have I.D.'d the bike he's talking about in 'LOF'.

Triumph Cub? A good one costs around two grand. Even if they were the most un-reliable motorcycle ever built, they sure looked neat.

Buy any bike you can for $1200 and after you break it, drop it, low-side it and throw it down then buy what you want. Bikes- Yamaha Maxim 650, Suzuki GS500, Honda Magna 700, Kawi KZ650, Honda CB550 would be a good start.

Welcome! I have a 1966 Dodge Dart project car myself.

As for looking for an old fashioned bike, I haven't seen the movie, but have you checked out the Royal Enfield? Kind of hard to find and a bit more maintenance intensive, since it's more of a reproduction of an old bike than a modern bike with old styling:

Or maybe a Suzuki TU250 if you'd rather have more modern mechanical bits:
