883 sporter heavier than 1200 sportster

Seruzawa, you said "...This test only cements my belief that one would be better served doing a performance job on an 883 than buying the XR1200 porker....that weight issue is ridiculous...".

Actually, an 883 sportster weighs MORE than a 1200 sportster. Here are the stats:

Sportster comparison

Both of the bikes in this test would be fantastic to own. Unfortunately we are in a depression and I cannot afford to buy either one.

The XR 1200 got a favorable review in MCN, I'd love to have one myself and may well get one as a play bike at some point.

You can get hard bags and a wind screen for the XR, I'm just saying.

You buy one yet? Or is the RZ tying up your capital?

I was going to, before some of my stock ended up in the toilet.

I was referring to an older pre-rubber mount 883R.

On the other hand, Harley’s XR1200 brings a fresh take on the naked roadster. Its success lies in the fact that it attracts sport riders and Harley faithful in equal measures.
Which is to say, not at all.

I'm thinking of a used SV-650 for a play bike. Probably pick one up for around 3 grand.

Hard to go wrong with an SV650

Indeed. However, it won't ever have the curb appeal of the Duc or H-D.

No, I like the Sportster myself, probably buy one at some point for a playbike.....of course I say that about Moto Guzzi too and there's always room for another Triumph.....
