Hello,
I'm wondering if the XJR1200 is sold in the US? I would really like to buy a 94-97 model but can't find any for sale! Thanks Jared (jaredbroad@gmail.com) |

Whoops. The XJR was one of those naked bikes that Americans won't buy so Yamaha didn't import them. The FZ1 would be the closest thing.

Actually, the mildly-faired FJR of those years might be closer. Isn't the FZ1 a newer model?

The XJR currently looks more like the nekked 1250 Bandit than just about anything out there. If I were in the XJR market I think I would check out a good used Kawi ZRX or a New Suzuki Bandit 1250.

In his other post in the "wanted" section, his price limit is far too low for those newer bikes.

Hey,
Thanks for your replies: yes Sachi my price limit is lower. I have found beautiful Suzuki Bandit 1200 for $3000 in Cali but am hoping to find something here in FL. Also I plan a long long roadtrip around south america and would like to do the maintenance myself with limited tools. I've tool told on newer bikes this is difficult because of the electronic components? Cheers. J |

If you get a Bandit it's unlikely you will need to do any repairs.

plus the Bandit has easily replaceable chain and sprocket drive instead of shaft drive, plus screw and locknut valves which is moot because they never need adjusting anyway, plus carbs instead of efi, plus air cooling instead of watercooling, plus easily replaceable standard bars instead of clip ones...
The Bandit or a KLR is what I'd take on such a trip, about the only thing simpler would be an airhead Beemer or an iron head Sporty.
