Hmmm. That's like saying, "... but she's got a great personality."

The difference between these and Harleys is that Harleys are the real deal, these guys will always be playing catch-up because they're following HD's lead. A modern Harley is a dam* fine bike in itself but it's driven by it's heritage, each part is scrutinized and improved based on that heritage. Japanese bikes are plain and simple trying to play off that and as Soiciro himself said Imitators cannot succeed in competittion with originals.

The Japanese succeeded so well in the 70's because they took the inline four and adopted it as their own, in that arena they can't be beat. When it comes to classic styled Vtwins they'll always be playing catch up.

That, and (I paraphrase here) "the only way we're going to sell cars in the US is to make our reputation with motorcycles." Bikes were just a foot in the door for Honda. HD makes bikes and stuff that goes with bikes. And dog food bowls; they sort of go with bikes. But your point is excellent, all HD does is motorcycles. No fork lifts, outboards, snowmobiles, etc. Not even scooters any more...just big ****ing V Twins, some with part numbers that date back 50 years.

And wallets with chains on them. And Beef Jerky - can't forget the Beef Jerky! Or the leather purses, or the cigarettes, or the special-edition pickup trucks (13 "Harley Davidson" emblems, one "Ford" emblem), umbrellas, playing cards, sunglasses, hardhats, workboots, workgloves.............

At least they're putting the HD logo on very good knives made by Benchmade now instead of the crap knives they used to brand. Can't be a badazz biker dude without a genuine HD branded knife...
