Not sure if the current 650 mill is really a knock-off. Note my reply above in re BMW's comment about its construction. All we can do is take them at their word unless someone plans to conduct metallurgy tests, or something. For that matter, the "original" was a copy of a Rotax. : ^ /

In the case of the BMW G450, the engine is manufactured by KYMCO in Taiwan (Republic of China).

I talked to Gabe a few weeks ago. CW eliminated his position so he's free lance again.

Maybe he didn't always pick the Honda first or something.

That job was not a good fit for Gabe. He was way too loose for that tight-a$$ed bunch over at CW. I'm sure they tried to make him toe the line, but he kept picking the Honda for last.

I was disappointed when he went to work for CW. Mainly because I refuse to read anything from Edwards' industry toadying rag. If Gabe is somewhere else I'll be able to enjoy his excellent stuff again.

Isn't Kymco the 650 builder? If so, Kymco actually has products that don't suck. The scooters are pretty tough and they are building small dispacement motorcycles that are filtering through customs as we speak. BMW could have picked a much worse partner.

The tough part about building engines isn't the assembly. It's the engineering behind the design and R&D. I'm not afraid of a German-engineered, Taiwan-assembled motor.
