Don't get me wrong. I've seldom ever ridden a bike that I didn't have a great time on. And those were mostly problematic Brit junk in the 60's. There's nothing like trying to tune a '54 BSA 500 single when the previous owner had welded the points plate solidly to the case. I'm just a bit mystified why some of the more modern weight reducing tricks can't be applied to the Japanese cruisers. The 2009 Dyna FXD costs only $700 more than the VTX1300 and lists at 663lbs running weight. HDs lighter than Hondas? The mind reels.

A Harley comparable to the VTX (with bags, windshield and backrest) is the Heritage Softail Classic. It it claimed to weigh 765 lbs in running order. And it doesn't have the extra weight of liquid-cooling like the Honda. Now, a 500cc BSA has them both beat!

You forgot to add in the $9.00 a gallon gasoline along with the outragous income taxes too. Great deal eh?

That Honda sure seems gutless for a big 1300. I used to be a fan of Honda, not so much anymore.

Well, with my wife's laptop I can't get below (the ridiculous) "more replies below" stage. Was never a problem with my work computer (before I had a heavy spill on the keyboard, don't ask) Anyways, if there is little enthusiasm on the real debate, this explains it.

for dirty keyboards run them in the dishwasher with no soap. Let them dry a couple weeks and presto, good as new.

Don't forget to do a final soaking in distilled water. No kidding. It'll pull out the salts that tap water leaves. We used to rejuvenate the expensive (several $K) keyboards in some of the military systems that way.

I guess I'm just not a Honda fan, the last one I had any enthusiasm for was my '97 VFR and that turned out to be misplaced. I like their Sportbikes though, always have from the original Interceptor to the new CBR1000RR, just not my cuppa' tea anymore.
