I see Ad Revolver when I clean up my mess occasionally. Haven't been directed anywhere by it though. Unless that's what keeps sending me here.

If your popup-blocker isn't enabled, and you have your browser set to "re-use the same window", it's possible that some ads might direct you away from MO automagically.............

Sachi, The "hosts" file is really handy if you don't have a DNS server and you need to connect to a system by machine name rather than by IP address. Not sure what good that's going to do for me since I can't do a thing with this site's backend. (BTW, it's fine now, so whatever was broken is fixed now).

A .hosts file can be used to block ad servers by directing all such html calls to a non-existent page. If you have this kind of .hosts file installed, the rotating ad would not show up at all. Your browser would either show a white block where the ad normally was, or would say "page not found" or the like.
