Social programs will be the end of us. Crying about the Iraq war spending when we spent about 1.5 trillion dollars a year on social programs seems a bit out of whack. I'm going to love having a Dem Prez and Congress. We are going to have a fun 4 years, me and you.
You'll like this one too. It's a good writeup about too many of my generation.

The new scam is that you buy a new house at depressed prices and move into that. Then you rent your old house and quit making the payments.

It's already happening.

I guess as long as you have the inital 200 to 300 grand cash to buy that stuff to live like a Gypsy, all is well with the world at that point. Most people just have a 30-year-old pickup to live in.

The upside is: they aren't losing any sleep over their portfolios going down the drain! It's a great time to be poor!

I saw that suicides are up a lot. People losing that cash and offing themselves. For me, I can go back on the street any day. Been there, done that.

Yeah. What's with these people? They should try patrolling river inlets in the pitch dark. Or sitting in a bunker as 81s drop all around. Life is pretty easy after that.

It's especially funny because they didn't really have the cash in the first place. It was all leveraged promises to pay. It's not like they'd spent all their lives saving and had someone steal it. Most of the money wasn't earned at all. They just got caught on the wrong end of the pyramid scheme.

It's Social Darwinism at it's finest, if your that weak that losing invisible money is enough to set you over the edge then the gene pool is stronger without you.

Don't complain, they're doing us a favor

My buddy was about to do that when the house around the corner from his came up for sale at $250 less that what they bought theirs at precrash.

Yeah, living on boats...in 1982 I lived in a rented 22' California with a flying jib, in Marina Del Rey. The boat was kind of thrashed, and it had no hot water, so I would get in my 8' Boston Whaler sailboat tender and go to the public showers at the end of the marina, off Admiralty Way. The California had a leak, and one night the bilge pump quit working, and I woke up in a submarine. That did it for my sefaring domicile. Then I moved to Echo Park, a real mistake...I'd rather sink than get shot by cholos.

The shaft glands on the boats got so thrashed by the frequent concussions that they had to be pumped out every 6 hours if they weren't on patrol. They'd replace them but it only took a week or so for the leaking to start again. Slowly at first but after a month or two the flooding would start again.

I had a girlfriend in Eagle Rock back in '72. Sometimes it was a real "pleasure" driving there too.
