that's why the foundation series remains my favorite of his works ... heavy on high concept, low on dialogue

It's been decades since I read Foundations. I recall being thoroughly engrossed by the books. Looking forward to having the time to do it again.

Oh, F'n PU-LEASE Homie!

Any d'Idjit can throw up some POS website and claim "We represent Engineers and Architects that, like Rosie O'Donnell, don't believe Steel can Melt".

And even if it wasn't a Shill site - being an Engineer does not make one immune from Stupidity. Don't believe that? Just rummage through this forum's archives - search on "KPaul, KPaulCook, KSquid", etc......

Fair warning: If you don't want to suffer a 'Net-beating; tread lightly upon this path.

This way lies Madness, young Grasshopper.

"Office fires can not melt steel,"

Since I am a 17 year career firefighter that had roofs nearly kill him when steel roofs melted and fell, I can say that these engineers certainly have no idea what fire can do. Especially considering that this fire that wasn't an 'office fire'. It was a fire of thousands of gallons of jet fuel, which can certainly melt steel and collapse floors. My personal experience has already proved them wrong.

Oh, I believe every word of it. I also believe that:

-BatBoy is our secret weapon against A-Qaeda
-The US Navy submarine fleet has mutinied and is hiding in the Marianas Trench
-Barack Hussein Obama is the predicted biblical Anti-Christ
-There are special carburetors that get 200mpg hidden away by Big Oil
-Schumaker-Levy will cause massive destruction of the Earth when it hits Jupiter.
-On Jan 1, 2000 all cars will stop running and civilization will come to a halt.
-That off shore drilling will destroy the coastlines
-That we'll all starve because of overpopulation by 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000.....oops forgot the latest prediction.
-Bush is an evil genius AND the stupidest President ever
-CO2 is making the Earth warmer
-Govt welfare programs help people, not destroy them. Just look what they did for the American Indians and inner cities.
-Taxing the rich more and giving the money to the poor will bring about heaven on Earth.
-Sarnali will not take a nap all afternoon today in the foam storage locker.

etc etc etc.

There is no limit to really idiotic beliefs.
