Default If you like mechanical stuff

This is a mechanical calculator from the 40s. It's got 605 parts in it!

Check out the video. I'm sure whoever invented this died penniless and insane.

That's nothing, look up the Marchant mechanical calculator, had this giant drum that spun around in a typewriter like carridge after you entered the data, and pulled the handle. Didn't want to get your tie stuck in it, that's fer sure.

605 moving parts? Pshaw! Just buy an Ironhead Sportster and you get that many in the cams drive alone and with the old straight cut gears you get to hear every single one. Cool.

Those brake nut things have to be the most crass and tasteless(?) things I've ever seen. I thought the regular truck nuts were bad enough but jeezus christ on crutches, why don't you just wear a sleeveless tee-shirt, hang a rebel flag off your truck and spit copenhagen out the window....oh, wait...never mind....

How about 2000 years old? I saw a Discovery show on this gizmo. It is so complex that for years it was believed to be a hoax. But carbon-14 dating proved it's age, then a guy built it with tools of the day. They think Archimedes may have built it.
