Figure out how to persuade your fellow voters what programs or services (or stupid wars) to cut, and then complaining about taxes may make sense. But as long as we have a majority of voters who demand programs and services (or permit stupid wars) that cost X billions or trillions of dollars, we're going to need to impose taxes to pay for it.

In CA, all it would take to balance the budget (in fact, to get a surplus) is to cut its prison population in half with a more sensible penal code. But the voters have made it clear that every litterbug deserves a prison sentence, and a long one at that. So we get to pay for it.

Quit complaining about taxes. Get to the source - complain about stupid and useless programs. (And then try to get a majority to agree.)

Well I'm sure you'll welcome those "litterbugs" out into your neighborhood once we release them.

How about making every dollar accounted for so we stop hearing about program after program and department after department "miss-placing" funds. The Iraq War is also extremely guilty of this as there have been reports of billions of dollars are missing and unaccounted for.

I guess when someone sits on a throne, it's easy to talk. How about moving into some Section 8 housing for a while, and then talk about how draconian the penal system is. I bet you wouldn't last 6 months there. As someone that grew up in that kind of area,I can tell you that the amount of crime that goes unpunished in these areas is astounding. Remember when Brad and Angelina were going to save New Orleans? It didn't take em long to get the hell out of that place. Maddox probably got kicked in the nuts on his first visit to the playground. After that it was a 140 million buck mansion in France for them. You only get to see these thugs in court. Try seeing them when they are between you and your doorway in the middle of the night.

If you want everyone locked up, don't complain about the taxes necessary to pay for both the law enforcement and the prisons required.

I grew up in a nice neighborhood (1960's Silverlake, subburb of LA) and right next door was Echo Park (not so nice). When the gang bangers from EP would go on raiding sorties, targeting our mom and pop stores on Silverlake Blvd, and burglerize homes close to the border, we'd arm ourselves with .22 rifles and shoot the **** out of thier low riders and generally let them know they weren't wanted in our hood. Then my buddy Neils got killed in Silverlake Liquor for being a white man, the gloves were off, and soon after that I carried a mod 27 HP S&W in .357 mag in the 7th grade, kept in in a hollowed out Treasure Island book. I also rode a mini bike to school (go devil) and parked it in the bike rack. So nothing has really changed, just the reporting has gotten better. Oh yeah, my number is C-27663. 245a. Did wino time for that beef.

Those weren't gang bangers Cuddy. They were just misunderstood, underprivlidged, individuals. If you had Sachi there, she could have just talked nicely to them and everything would have been fine. I guess she never experienced a gang fight with about 100 kids punching the shyt out of each other in 6th grade at recess. I did. Quite an adventure I tell ya.

Oh I know LR, poor underpriveleged kids who just wanted to succeed by robbing a few liquor stores and shooting some gavachos in the neighborhood next door. Didn't happen after my buddy got killed. Much like the current conflict we're in over in the middle east, the only thing they understood was superior firepower (or a 238 gr. jacketed hollowpoint whizzing by their right ear). That got their attention.
