Kirk, I think you'll find the (very) short list includes Lloyd's of London.

Ken, you're right about the Alpha 1 being mostly lake material (fresh water). I ran the boat in the ocean for the last year or so, and had to spend big bucks to fix the steering (frozen lower unit ball joint) and the CV joint from the motor to the upper unit. And this is after greasing the beejezus out of it, along with religous salt-a-way treatments when flushing out the bilge, motor, etc. Anyway, it was on the block since my accident, finally sold it to a buddy. Sorry to see it go, was a nice boat. That 4.3 was a great motor (4.3 Chevy Vortec done to Mercury specs).

I don't know why they can't build an ocean capable I/O. Volvo's comes closest, the "outboard" unit holds up, but then whatever engine they install it with rusts away.

Speaking of Volvo, anybody seen their new drive unit? It's two counter-rotating props, mounted under the hull (not through the transom) with a swivel connection for steering, BUT, the props face forward and PULL! Neat stuff, they say the efficiency gain having the prop in clear water is enormous.
