Whoa. NASA says the meteor was probably the size of a bus, it exploded with the force of 20 Hiroshima bombs, and if it had exploded a fraction of a second later, most of that city would be gone. Biggest meteor since Tunguska.

I keep reading that it has no relation to the near-approach asteroid, but these things sometimes travel in families. I wonder if this was a smaller chunk that gradually drifted away from its big brother into its own trajectory.

Yeah but there's no money for meteor defense what with the need to prop up failing e-car technology.

In our defence, we're a little smarter than dinosaurs. An extiction level event for them wouldn't nesseccarily be an extinction level event for us.

A massive catastrophy, population thinning, half the earth in flames event perhaps but we are infinately more adaptable than dinosaurs, I'm pretty sure we as a species would survive even if only at a stone age level for awhile.

'Course there's no telling till it happens I guess....

But it will now that the Beast666 is in the White House! Everybody head for high ground... east of Seattle in the mountains. I hear there's a lot of food and ammunition stored around there.

No No! nothing there but tons of snow, ravanous wolves, grizzlies and wacko Vietnam vet survivalists living on bugs...Utah is where I'd go, everyone knows how thrifty those Mormons are, caring, sharing and willing to take you in, you just need to worship a golden cow and wear magic undies and you're good to go!

Back in the day they'd have known better; I remember the drills in school.

I'm just sayin'; if you were sitting in your office/living room/toilet, and a weird, really bright light flashed in yon window, I'm almost certain you'd think, "WTF?" and go look.

You'd get to the window about the same time the shock wave did.
