Fuel leaks, flaming batteries, and now cracking c0ckpit windows.
I'm guessing the 787 has been in development long enough that she's the baby of the current crop of middle-aged Boeing engineers, right?

That's all? Jeez. It's a new plane. There are always bugs. This is just the usual shyt from the media.... an attempt to frighten everyone. The news is mostly half-truths and outright lies designed to make you fearful and willing to accept more govt regulation. It's the tool of the radical left to create the new fascist world state.
Our society is full of the dupes of this radical anti-western totalitarian cult. You will know them by their love of govt and their religious faith in the power of govt to solve problems.

It's probably a campaign by the Unions to discredit the Non-Union builders in South Carolina.

Normal teething problems on a revolutionary new design, funnily enough the battery rack was supplied by non union labor in N'ote Cal'lana as were the majority of faulty and ill-fitting componants. Boeing has admitted that extensive outsourcing on this a/c was a major cause of the delays and fitment issues, no need to beat them over the head about it.
Slow news day or axe to grind, you make the call..

Michael Crichton wrote a pretty good "inside" look at this very topic:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airframe_(novel) It's one of his first novels so it's not on par with his later stuff, but it's still pretty good. The story is about a new aircraft that has a series of failures in the flight control system, culminating in a disasterous loss of control on a trans-Pacific flight where a bunch of people get splattered around in the cabin when the jet goes completely out of control. Spoiler alert: "There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?"

I've read most of Chrichton's books. He was a very intelligent person and died way too young. You should try State of Fear Kenneth. It's one of the few action novels where the eco wackos are actually the bad guys rather than Big Oil! It's really well done and a page turner again. |
