Default SUPER-STORM Sandy

If you haven't lived through a major hurricane, it's hard to imagine just how miserable the aftermath can be. It took almost a year for the Homestead, Cutler Ridge, and Kendall areas in south Dade county to get back to a semblance of normal life after Andrew. In '04 and '05 the Ft. Lauderdale and south Palm Beach county areas lost power, traffic signals, even water service for weeks on end. After Wilma there were no gas stations, no grocery stores, roads blocked, etc. for a month in some areas. Emergency help is critical.

The Red Cross is the primary first-responder:
American Red Cross | Disaster Relief, CPR Certification, Donate Blood

The United Way is another:
United Way Worldwide

Yah.

Storms like that are almost 'routine' hereabouts; my thoughts and prayers go out to all the folks whose lives have been affected by Sandy.

Default World Wide Relief

It is only a matter of time before the donations from all the African and Middle Eastern countries comes rolling in. Don't forget Mexico. I hear they're sending construction workers to rebuild the East coast. I'm also sure Obama will coordinate FEMA's efforts as well. At least we've got that going for us.

We're ants on our little anthill. Someday the Earth (or a cosmic bowling ball) will flick us off.

If y'all can set your political rants aside for a moment, here's a direct link to donate:

Donate Funds | Donations | Giving to American Red Cross

I've donated $40. Who'll match or do better?

Red Cross is on our yearly donation list. Not to mention the HUGE donation I give to FEMA twice a month.

I gave at the office. No, really, I did!

I also give blood every couple of months when they bring the BloodMobile by. I hate doing it, but it's the only way they have to get the stuff. A Dr. friend of mine says it's good for guys over 40; it has a good effect on the bone marrow or something like that.
